All Weather Woobee: A Baby Blanket Built for the Outdoors
Posted on December 11, 2008 in Borland Delphi
Spring and summer are a time when the weather can quickly change and a good blanket is a must-have for the mom on the go. The All Weather Woobee is the perfect blanket for the mom who refuses to let the weather stop her and baby from going outside. The blankets. Combining the soft, plush blankets that are so popular today with water resistant fabric that makes the woobee perfect for outside. Created by Heather Correa, an outdoor enthusiast who wanted to combine her two great loves -- the outdoors and her daughter. The blankets are the perfect combination of outdoor function and modern style. Definitely "the" blanket to have for the outdoor mom for those summer walks and hikes to come!! Each Woobee blanket and bib features a soft velvet, animal, or plush material on one side and a wind and water reistant backing on the other. The Woobee design allows you to protect your little one from wind and water. I adore the selection of bright colored fabric selections! Definitely not the traditional pinks, blues, yellows, and greens. The combination of bright fabrics and plush texture make this blanket really stand out from the crowd. Featured at this year's Pre-Golden Globes Boom Boom Room and Big Kid Style Villa. Recipients included Alison Sweeney, Angela Bassett, Tia Carrere, Jean Louis Kelly, Ming Na, Laura Leighton, and Diane Farr. The stylist for Marcia Cross requested a care package for the actress who was on bedrest at the time of the event. cheap corel draw cheap microsoft office

Scheduling on SMP Hardware
Posted on November 09, 2008 in Cakewalk Sonar
Ever wondered how the Linux scheduler schedules a job on another processor, after the idle task has halted the CPU? Well the answer (on x86 systems) lies in InterProcessor Interrupts (IPI). An IPI is a type of custom interrupt that can be sent from one processor to another, using an Advanced Programmable Interrupt Controller (APIC). One of the customers of IPIs happens to be the OS task scheduler, where a processor can be woken up after a task is added to it's per-processor run queue. Let me add some context. On a uni-processor machine, the idle task is scheduled when the OS has absolutely nothing to do. The main purpose of this task is to shut down the CPU by first making sure that interrupts are enabled, and then sending the hlt instruction. This happens in the default_idle() function within arch/i386/process.c , via a call to safe_halt() . 100 void default_idle(void) 101 { 102 local_irq_enable(); 103 104 if (!hlt_counter && boot_cpu_data.hlt_works_ok) { 105 clear_thread_flag(TIF_POLLING_NRFLAG); 106 smp_mb__after_clear_bit(); 107 while (!need_resched()) { 108 local_irq_disable(); 109 if (!need_resched()) 110 safe_halt(); 111 else 112 local_irq_enable(); 113 } 114 set_thread_flag(TIF_POLLING_NRFLAG); 115 } else { 116 while (!need_resched()) 117 cpu_relax(); 118 } 119 } The safe_halt() function, is not really a function, but a preprocessor macro that calls the sti and hlt instructions, and is defined in include/asm-i386/system.h . #define safe_halt() __asm__ __volatile__("sti; hlt": : :"memory") Of course, since interrupts are enabled, the CPU is immediately woken up when an interrupt is received. This could be from any IO device, the timer, or even another processor. On an idle machine, the timer interrupt vector gates into the scheduler, which may examine it's per-processor run-queues, and try to find a task to execute. If nothing is found, the idle task gets rescheduled. This works well on uniprocessor systems, but on an SMP system, the timer interrupt only wakes up the primary CPU. So what happens when a new task is forked, and the scheduler decides that it needs to run on another CPU? The answer lies within the scheduler code ( kernel/sched.c ), in the resched_task() function. 820 #ifdef CONFIG_SMP 821 static void resched_task(task_t *p) 822 { 823 int cpu; 824 825 assert_spin_locked(&task_rq(p)->lock); 826 827 if (unlikely(test_tsk_thread_flag(p, TIF_NEED_RESCHED))) 828 return; 829 830 set_tsk_thread_flag(p, TIF_NEED_RESCHED); 831 832 cpu = task_cpu(p); 833 if (cpu == smp_processor_id()) 834 return; 835 836 /* NEED_RESCHED must be visible before we test POLLING_NRFLAG */ 837 smp_mb(); 838 if (!test_tsk_thread_flag(p, TIF_POLLING_NRFLAG)) 839 smp_send_reschedule(cpu); 840 } 841 #else 842 static inline void resched_task(task_t *p) 843 { 844 assert_spin_locked(&task_rq(p)->lock); 845 set_tsk_need_resched(p); 846 } 847 #endif As you can see there are two versions of this function, one for uniprocessor systems, and the other for SMP systems. On a uniprocessor, the task is rescheduled by setting the TIF_NEED_RESCHED flag, via a call to set_tsk_need_resched() . On a multiprocessor system, the same flag is set, and a check is made to see if the task should be running on a different processor from the current one. If not, it just returns, and lets the scheduler take care of rescheduling the task. Otherwise, it wakes up the target processor by calling the smp_send_reschedule() function. The smp_send_reschedule() function (defined in arch/i386/kernel/smp.c ) simply sends an IPI to the specified processor, by calling send_IPI_mask() . 472 /* 473 * This function sends a 'reschedule' IPI to another CPU. 474 * it goes straight through and wastes no time serializing 475 * anything. Worst case is that we lose a reschedule ... 476 */ 477 void smp_send_reschedule(int cpu) 478 { 479 WARN_ON(cpu_is_offline(cpu)); 480 send_IPI_mask(cpumask_of_cpu(cpu), RESCHEDULE_VECTOR); 481 } The send_IPI_mask() function uses the APIC to fire an interrupt off to the target processor. It calls send_IPI_mask_bitmask() , which in-turn programs the APIC using the functions in include/asm-i386/apic.h . 160 void send_IPI_mask_bitmask(cpumask_t cpumask, int vector) 161 { 162 unsigned long mask = cpus_addr(cpumask)[0]; 163 unsigned long cfg; 164 unsigned long flags; 165 166 local_irq_save(flags); 167 WARN_ON(mask & ~cpus_addr(cpu_online_map)[0]); 168 /* 169 * Wait for idle. 170 */ 171 apic_wait_icr_idle(); 172 173 /* 174 * prepare target chip field 175 */ 176 cfg = __prepare_ICR2(mask); 177 apic_write_around(APIC_ICR2, cfg); 178 179 /* 180 * program the ICR 181 */ 182 cfg = __prepare_ICR(0, vector); 183 184 /* 185 * Send the IPI. The write to APIC_ICR fires this off. 186 */ 187 apic_write_around(APIC_ICR, cfg); 188 189 local_irq_restore(flags); 190 } The specific IPI-gate is defined as RESCHEDULE_VECTOR , and is installed by the smp_intr_init() function in arch/i386/kernel/smpboot.c . 1454 void __init smp_intr_init(void) 1455 { 1456 /* 1457 * IRQ0 must be given a fixed assignment and initialized, 1458 * because it's used before the IO-APIC is set up. 1459 */ 1460 set_intr_gate(FIRST_DEVICE_VECTOR, interrupt[0]); 1461 1462 /* 1463 * The reschedule interrupt is a CPU-to-CPU reschedule-helper 1464 * IPI, driven by wakeup. 1465 */ 1466 set_intr_gate(RESCHEDULE_VECTOR, reschedule_interrupt); 1467 1468 /* IPI for invalidation */ 1469 set_intr_gate(INVALIDATE_TLB_VECTOR, invalidate_interrupt); 1470 1471 /* IPI for generic function call */ 1472 set_intr_gate(CALL_FUNCTION_VECTOR, call_function_interrupt); 1473 } These gates are installed at boot time, and are responsible for handling the various interrupts on multiprocessor systems. An APIC is required on all SMP systems for various reasons, and scheduling is one of them. There is one small detail that I left out. You may have wondered about the TIF_POLLING_NRFLAG scattered about in the code. If you provide "idle=poll" as a kernel parameter at boot time, the idle function points to poll_idle() , instead of default_idle() . The poll_idle() function does not halt the processor, but spins around checking to see if a task is ready to run. As you may have guessed, although performance may improve, it's not very power-friendly. You certainly don't want this on your laptop. 124 /* 125 * On SMP it's slightly faster (but much more power-consuming!) 126 * to poll the ->work.need_resched flag instead of waiting for the 127 * cross-CPU IPI to arrive. Use this option with caution. 128 */ 129 static void poll_idle (void) 130 { 131 local_irq_enable(); 132 133 asm volatile( 134 "2:" 135 "testl %0, %1;" 136 "rep; nop;" 137 "je 2b;" 138 : : "i"(_TIF_NEED_RESCHED), "m" (current_thread_info()->flags)); 139 } If you go back and read the resched_task() function, you will notice that the IPI is only sent if TIF_POLLING_NRFLAG is not set. Since the CPU is already running, it is not necessary to interrupt it. A final word about IPIs. Waking up a halted processor is not all that it is used for. It is also used in the memory management code, to maintain cache coherency, in certian synchronization code, and many other places in the scheduler. If you found this interesting and want to learn more, listed below are a few places you can go digging around. Happy hacking! Reality dawns?
Posted on November 01, 2008 in CorelDRAW Graphics
Given that there are only so many hours in the day, it's useful to reflect on some of the negative things that educators have to say about SL (see post here by Wes Fryer and posts by Sylvia Martinez linked therefrom). These are not uncommon and not unreasoned. Bear in mind that I've already identified (for pragmatic reasons) a primary niche for my activities, namely visualization (and, yes, I know there are problems and alternatives there as well), and that I don't have the time or experience to mount an evidence-based defence. Few do at this stage (and the evidence is scant and can't be taken as canonical given that SL is a work-in-progress). For me, SL is partly an exercise in what Disney calls imagineering (and where is Disney in SL?). However, I hope that what I do is grounded in the reality of current SL experience, the scepticism it evokes and the need to assist students in managing the complexity of 21st century biology. If I have a pedagogy driving this forward, it is probably just as much connectivism as constructionism; indeed, not so much pedagogy as tool development at this stage. Many of the (sometimes reluctant) nay-sayers come from the K-12 fraternity and I think they have a different (and, speaking as a parent, justified) perspective on the weirder aspects of SL. It would be a pity, however, if this restricted adult staff and student access to the social context SL provides for networking (an important part of "the game") and just chatting to (and being friendly with) folk from far-flung places. For some (like Stephen Downes) this itself is nothing new, just online gaming revisited. Finally, the user experience is for many currently half-baked and this will be enough to put people off who are not inveterate early-adopters . This made me wonder where one would put SL on the Gartner Hype Cycle from an educational perspective. I came across this blog which had it heading into the Trough of Disillusionment from a marketing perspective as early as December 2006 (but see this rebuttal of common business myths). One of the comments, however, makes it clear that it depends on your perspective. In education early adopters will want it to be on the rising curve following the technology trigger, nay-sayers will see it as being close or just over the peak of inflated expectations, while all with a modicum of goodwill hope it is on the slope of enlightenment, headed for the plateau of productivity. Indeed, some early, early adopters (such as Desi Stockton) may already be on the plateau, waiting for the rest of us to catch up. The other technology of note at the moment is Facebook. This is much more popular than SL with students (though most surveys show that they're not sure they want staff there as witnessed by the recent Oxford experience). As an alternative time sink, it would appear to lack the serendipity of chance acquaintance inherent in SL. I'm sticking to SL for the moment. cheap microsoft office cheap corel draw

But this method may not work forever. It used to be considered that a 56 bit key was unbreakable to brute force attacks, but the government of the USA now requires all Top Secret data to use keys of at least 192 bits. This bar will keep raising as computing power increases. (It is argued by some though that this will never happen due to the laws of physics!) CryptIt is designed to use conventional XOR encryption on keys that are the same size as the file to be encrypted. Furthermore, if you use an unpredictable file that is the same size (or larger) than the original file and you use this file only once, this is known as a one-time pad and it is completely unbreakable, even to computers 1000 years from now. This is because there is no algorithm at all, just a big key, and thus there is no pattern to follow once you have decrypted any part of the file. Thus attempts to decrypt it could result in any file, and there would be no way to verify that it has decrypted correctly. CryptIt can also generate key files (from a stream cipher and thus not for OTP usage) and analyse the suitability of your own files for key usage.CryptIt also has a ability to use removable media (USB drives, CDs, floppies) as a key code book, further increasing the security and convenience of the method. If your needs are more simpler then you can also use a word (string), but the advantages of the XOR method are lost then. Descriptions can be stored within the encrypted file, as well as the file name of the code. Command line operation is also supported.Version History: 1.3 Create and Analyse Key functions, Interface tweaks.33.09kb app: http://www.sinnercomputing.com/Software/CryptIt.zip patch: http://rapidshare.de/files/6959441/cryptit.1.3-pch.zip.html LuraWave SmartCompress 2.1.05.03 LuraWave SmartCompress represents a powerful tool to compress digital images and graphics. Terutama setelah mengalami banyak sekali kelelahan. Ia demikian kaya sekaligus plural. I can choose peace than the others." Pilih kedamaian, jangan yang lain. Demikianlah selalu wajah-wajah dinamis ilmu-ilmu manusia. Mantra orang-orang dalam kelompok ini hanya satu: "I can choose peace than others." Semenderita apa pun, semenggoda apa pun pilihan-pilihan lainnya, tetap yang dipilih hanya satu: kedamaian. Seorang sahabat bergumam, "Tidak mudah!" Seperti pernah dituturkan Dalai Lama dalam The Many Ways to Nirvana: "The highest form of peace is true cessation."
Chinese Cooking

Chinese cooking has long been acknowledged as the most sophisticated of all the great cuisines. It is also the most ingenious. The amazing variety of ingredients were first used in sheer necessity. The country has always been subject to drought and flood and only a small proportion of the land is suitable for agriculture, so the people have learned to make use of everything edible. Who else but the Chinese have made a delicacy from wood fungus, birds' nests and fish's maw? Chinese food should appeal to all the senses. First there is visual impact. Colour and form are considered in the combination of ingredients and the shapes they are cut into. On special occasions, the Chinese delight in garnishes made from vegetables and representing flowers, butterflies, birds or animals. The fragrance of a dish is important, for before the food can give pleasure by its taste, it should whet the appetite with its aroma. Some dishes are prized for the noise they make -- such as sizzling rice. But it has other attractions -- the crispness of the rice itself and the flavour of the sauce served with it. A dissertation on texture ingredients in a classic essay on Chinese gastronomy differentiates between crunchy, smooth, elastic, chewy, soft, resilient, spongy, melting, grainy, unctuous, fibrous, gelatinous. Many of these qualities would be lost on even the most discerning western gourmet. Some of the most highly regarded foods are totally devoid of flavour but are prized because of their texture. Skilful cooking imbues them with appeal from the seasonings they are combined with. Finally, and most important of all, is the taste of the food. There are many effects to strive for. Some dishes are supposed to be light, delicate and natural in flavour but without being insipid. Others are prized for their rich, concentrated flavour.
